The Abrams Planetarium opened in 1963, and has had an estimated one million visitors since then. As a branch of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at MSU, the Abrams Planetarium is dedicated to teaching astronomy to the public. The planetarium also collaborates with MSU and Lansing Area folks to create programming across disciplines.

The main office is open Monday-Friday 9am-4:30pm (closed for lunch 12-1). Pre-booked field trip and group shows are done during the weekdays. Public shows are on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday Afternoons. Sensory friendly shows are once a month on Sundays. Additional special programming happens throughout the year.

Established in 1873, the Beal Botanical Garden is the oldest, continuously operated university botanical garden in the United States and illuminates the interconnectedness between people, plants, and place. This living laboratory encourages learning and exploration of the natural world. With a collection of over 2,000 plants from around the globe situated in the heart of MSU’s campus along the Red Cedar River, this lovely natural landscape is perfect for collaborative programming to advance research, teaching, well-being, and public engagement. 

The Charlotte Performing Arts Center is 775 seat public school and professional auditorium located in Charlotte, Michigan. We present a wide range of events annually from Charlotte Public Schools performances to community theatrical performances to community band performances to professional artist performances. We are available to rent as well, and have hosted a variety of types of rentals over the years.

Planted nearly 100 years ago, and rescued decades later from neglect, Cooley Gardens is a garden lover's delight. It has a pavilion, park benches, picnic tables and a beautiful wedding site.  The gardens, designed by Edward H. Laird, are named after Eugene Cooley, the son of Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas M. Cooley and namesake of Lansing's iconic Cooley Law School.  The City of Lansing Parks and Recreation Department maintain the beautiful array of annuals and perennials to include Cannas, Elephant Ears, Birds of Paradise, hibiscus, and banana trees.

The MSU Broad Art Museum connects people with art through experiences that inspire curiosity and inquiry. With a focus on the art of our time—in dialogue with the historical—the museum encourages engagement with timely issues of local relevance and global significance. Through a program that features local, national, and international artists, a permanent collection of over 10,000 works, and dynamic public programming, the MSU Broad Art Museum advances the values of quality, inclusion, and connectivity that are paramount to Michigan State University.

Fenner Nature Center is an environmental education center encompassing 134 acres of publicly accessible green space. Now run by the non-profit Fenner Conservancy, the property includes over four miles of trails, rolling glacial eskers, towering maple groves and so much more. Inside the Visitor Center, you will find collections of live native reptiles and amphibians; a viewing area to watch songbirds, deer and wild turkeys; and opportunities to explore newly renovated hands-on exhibits, designed with YOU in mind.

Founded by the Sports and Recreation Committee of the Lansing Bicentennial Commission and inaugurated July 4, 1976, the Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame was established to honor our nation’s first 200 years through the celebration of Mid-Michigan’s athletic legacy. Surrounded by 200 acres of forest and meadows, the Harris Nature Center is set on the banks of the Red Cedar River. This setting offers a wonderful opportunity for a variety of learning experiences for people of all ages. Inside the building are educational displays with live animals. Outside, visitors can spend time viewing the river and live bird exhibits, play in the Nature Exploration Area, and explore the many miles of paved and natural trails.

The Michigan History Museum tells the stories of Michigan's past, from the end of the Ice Age through the late 20th century, in special exhibits and 26 permanent galleries. Visitor favorites include a 3-story relief map, a mural of traditional Anishinaabe lifeways and culture, a U.P. copper mine, a one-room school and a 1950s auto show. The museum store offers unique Michigan-made and Michigan-themed items that reflect the state's rich heritage.

REACH Studio Art Center is a vibrant, non-profit community art center offering creative out-of-school engagement in the arts for all ages and abilities with classes and workshops taught by local teaching artists. Free and sliding-scale fee programs in a variety of arts, media, and disciplines happen at REACH, a campus of seven studios located in the REO Town district of Lansing, Michigan, or around town through the REACH Art Truck program.

Located on the river between the Lansing Center and Shiawassee Street bridge, the new Rotary Park has already become a top destination for residents and visitors. Unlike any other park in the region, Rotary Park features a new ADA kayak launch, a beach, a vibrant plaza with a large fireplace, a magical lighted forest, and a new venue for small concerts and events under the bridge.

Once located on the current site of the BWL substation this Italian style garden was meticulously reassembled next to Cooley Gardens in the summer of 2019.  It was originally created by Lansing businessman and philanthropist Richard H. Scott in the early 1900's.  The Garden Club of Greater Lansing has been instrumental in the restoration and maintaining of Scott Sunken Garden since the 1980's.

Lansing Community College created the Shigematsu Memorial Garden in 2006 to commemorate Mr. Megumi Shigematsu, generous sponsor of LCC programs in Japan and former President of Biwako Kisen Company. The Garden is frequently listed as one of the top attractions in downtown Lansing. LCC is proud of the important place this garden holds for many people, and we are currently in the process of making needed updates and improvements. The garden includes a rock garden, lanterns, a moon-viewing deck, and a Koi pond. It is absolutely beautiful all seasons. Check the website for details on improvement schedules.

Step back into the Victorian era with a visit to Michigan's award-winning Capitol Building. Designed by Elijah E. Myers, one of the foremost architects of public buildings during the
Gilded Age (1865-1914), construction of the Capitol Building took six years and contains over nine acres of hand-painted surfaces. Visitors can enter through the new Heritage Hall entrance on the north side of the Capitol Building on Ottawa Avenue. All tours will start in Heritage Hall. Tours of the public areas and the House and Senate galleries are available every half hour during the school year and on the hour during the summer months Mon.-Fri.(9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

Carved from a mature tree nursery that was planted in the late 1940s, the championship layout of Timber Ridge Golf Club boasts spectacular views and an inspiring design. Course architect Jerry Matthews of Matthews Natural Course Design worked with an abundant variety of trees, the hilly terrain, and the existing marshland. Matthews’ philosophy of design allowed nature and the contour of the land to suggest the placement of holes and flow of the course.

The Turner-Dodge House & Heritage Center is a National Historic site and event center. You can enjoy historical tours highlighting the lives and achievements of one of Lansing’s most prominent founding families. Throughout the year, you can also attend one of many musical or dance performances, themed teas, or specialty festivals offered at Turner-Dodge House.
